The 7 Chakras

You may have heard about the word chakra when it comes to complementary medicine or alternative therapy. This word is Sanskrit which means “wheel”. This is because chakras are wheels of energy spinning round and round in the human body. There are actually 7 chakra centers in the body which starts at the bottom of the spine to the top of the head also known as the crown. This might be a little bit confusing because this stuff is not visible to the naked eye but there are actually some proofs that chakras do really exist.

The Proof

One of the proofs is the discovery of Konstantin Korotkov, a professor of St. Petersburg Federal University of Informational Technologies, Optics, and Mechanics. He used a device that detects chakras. This equipment is founded on old Chinese belief of meridians. Through the use of a small electrical current transmitted to the fingers, the energy on the fingertips can be detected once relayed on the computer. The brighter the glow, the healthier the flow of chakra is. As mentioned from ancient Ayurvedic Indian medicine, each area on the fingertips represents various systems in the body.

How Do Chakras Work?

Before delving deeper into the mechanisms of chakras, let’s think of these as batteries that are rechargeable. These chakras can be charged with a stream of energy from the surroundings. It is similar to a house obtaining power supply to a central power source. This cosmic energy runs up to the crown of the head then down to the bottom of the spine. The seven centers of chakra are situated on this line of power on the spine.

Do you know that Chakras play an important role?

They actually link your spiritual body to your physical body and regulate the meridians. Meridians are the electrical networks that are connected to the physical body. The chakras make it possible for these electrical currents to be dispatched to every area or part of the body and prepared for use. However, there are cases that the chakras are blocked because of some predicaments involving stress, emotion,  and the physical body. If the energy system of the body is disrupted, problems will definitely happen. The problems often include illnesses as well as instability of mental and emotional well-being. The chakras play a significant part from disease resistance to the processing of emotions so when there is an imbalance with the flow then there would be chaos on most body functions.

The 7 Chakras and Their Locations

A healthy person with balanced energy systems has all 7 chakras functioning well and providing enough amounts of energy to each body part, mental aspect and spiritual aspect.

The Root/Muladhara Chakra (Tailbone)

Known as Muladhara in Sanskrit, this is considered as the foundation because of its location which is the base of the spine. When the root chakra is healthy, then your feelings of security and calmness are never out of sync with reality. The favorable result is being able to face new challenges head-on. The Muladhara plays a vital role when one faces major life changes or starting anew whether be it a career or a relationship with another person.

What disrupts the root chakra are instances when the basic needs for survival such as food and shelter are being threatened. Even a simple fear can misalign the root chakra. A blocked root chakra may leave feelings of panic, anxiety, and uncertainty. Physical symptoms manifest lower back pain and cold extremities.

The Sacral/Svadhisthana Chakra (Mid-Abdomen)

Also known as Svadhishthana, this is the chakra of creativity. This affects your imagination, artistry, sexuality, and adaptability. Being stressed in some areas of your sexuality will leave your Svadhishthana blocked.

Relationship struggles or inability to experience life’s pleasures might negatively affect your sacral chakra. Boredom, lack of imagination and low libido levels are results of a misaligned or a blocked chakra. Problems with urinating, development of allergies and addictive behaviors (e.g. binge-eating, gambling and impulsive buying) are some manifestations of a misaligned sacral chakra.

The Solar Plexus/Manipura Chakra (Inches Above the Navel)

Strongly related to the digestive system, the Manipura also greatly influences your emotional health. Your sense of autonomy is also regulated by this center. When everything is alright with this chakra, the positive manifestation is having clear goals, a clear head, and knowing the necessary actions to achieve success.

A blocked or misaligned solar plexus chakra will allow a sense of impending doom and low self-esteem. Minimum blockage would result in insecurity in one area while a larger one would cause a lot of complications on the self-esteem. Not being able to learn vital lessons from the challenges in life and constant thoughts of not being good enough are presented when the chakra in the solar plexus is not doing well.

The Heart/Anahata Chakra (The Center of The Chest)

Also known as the Anahata, the heart chakra is closely linked to one’s capacity in love and compassion. This chakra center is oftentimes defined as the connection between the body, mind, and spirit. A perfectly balanced Anahata will allow you to express empathy easily unto others, have a high E. Q. , a sense of inner peace, and the ability to balance emotions and cognition well.

The heart chakra is negatively affected by anything related to love issues such as a breakup or a heartache, a problematic friendship and violence. When the heart chakra is badly affected, one will have a hard time empathizing with other people. A blocked heart chakra will make you cynical and troubled. This is often linked to hypertension and low immune system.

The Throat/Vishuddha Chakra (Throat)

The throat chakra known is also known as the Vishuddha chakra in Sanskrit. It affects how your express yourself, authenticity, and ownership of your needs. A well-aligned Vishuddha will make you speak honestly and you will give you the ability to make yourself be understood well by others without being frank.

This chakra will be disrupted with bad experiences in job interviews and arguments. Moreover, problems with the throat chakra will result in struggles with communication. You will find it hard to find the right words. Minimal blockage can result in a communication problem with a friend or an area in your life while a bigger one can result in larger and more complex communication problems. Physical manifestations include neck pain and hormone imbalances.

The Third Eye/Anja Chakra (Center of The Brows)

The ajna or the third eye chakra is known as very powerful as it regulates your intuition and how in sync you are with the universe. A good flow of energy in this chakra will make you trust your gut feelings and notice the signs.

But, when the third eye chakra is misaligned you may doubt your purpose or intuition. Feeling insignificant and indecisive are the effects of a blocked third eye chakra. Additional problems may include not being able to sleep well, being clumsy and having a hard time to learn new stuff. There will be psychological paralysis as you will have problems in making the right decisions and not listening to one’s intuition.

The Crown/Sahasara Chakra (Top of The Head)

Sahasrara, is the Sanskrit of the crown chakra which is known as the highest chakra. This is very important in making the life you love possible and being at peace all the time. When the crown chakra is working well you will be able to appreciate the beauty in every little thing around you as well as having deep joy. Feelings of life being worthwhile and glorious are often felt.

Just like the other chakras, the crown chakra can be blocked. With this specific chakra, it can be blocked by any life experience that is traumatic. Feelings of low self-worth and depression often manifest with a misaligned crown chakra as well as a dip in motivation and excitement in life. Chronic headaches are common symptoms of a blocked crown chakra.

The chakras have their own corresponding elements. These elements will allow you to choose the right objects for meditation. Having knowledge of this will allow you to be in control of your chakras and thus help you with wound healing, balancing your well-being and even allowing the law of the universe to work on your dreams and goals based on the law of attraction.
